The Telephone Museum, Milton Keynes

The Telephone Museum at Milton Keynes has long been associated with the Telecoms Heritage Group. The Telephone Museum is part of the Milton Keynes Museum at Wolverton. Much of the indoor display pre-dates the Connected Earth project.

I have visited the Museum on a number of occasions when the THG has held an event either at the museum or close by. These are just a few of the images I've taken over the last few years.

The entrance The main collection is housed in a rather unremarkable wooden building between the main entrance and the main museum buildings.

Immediately on entering you will be struck by the sheer amount of stuff they've managed to cram in to display case and shelves.

The cabinet in the centre houses a collection of switching equipment. Against the far wall are telephones and bells.

You can see more clearly here the cabin contains a variety of novelty telephones and the shelf holds telephones connected to various switchboards.

One corner is devoted entirely to switchboards.

The small Strowger exchange is connected to many of the phones around the room.

A Buzby mug, a telephone call timer. A toy telephone in front of a blue Jubilee model and a lineman's test meter.

There are some quite unusual instruments, such as this Ericofon from Ericsson.
